PHHWV Emergency Assistance Updates - Week 4

PHHWV Update 7 March 2009

As many of the local bushfire helpers have returned to work this week, we have noticed a slight increase in calls for help.  Once again we do ask, where possible, that owners call in themselves.  Time is being wasted when friends call in and pass on inaccurate information and this confusion is upsetting to the owners who have been through so much already.  Some people have even had good meaning friends call on their behalf, yet they are unaware of the call or that their personal details were given out!

Early this week many people made the choice to move their horses before the bad weather hit.  PHHWV supports this move and thanks to the planning of the CFA and DSE, Tuesday was managed well and fires were contained within control lines.  Please don’t think moving your horses was a waste of time as planning ahead to prevent further loss of life and stock is very important.

Thank you to everyone who has offered agistment, care and transport over the past four weeks.  As of the end of this week we have had offers to re-home over 1600 horses.  The PHHWV committee has made the decision to close the Offer of Help Register as the offers are well and truly exceeding the requests that are coming in.

Also, thank you to everyone who have kindly donated goods and feed, it is very much appreciated.  Once again, the committee has decided to ask people to hang on to goods they may wish to donate.  Just like the other welfare agencies e.g. Red Cross, we feel we have enough to meet the present demand and do not want to take goods that may not be required.  Should there be a future increase in demand that can’t be met by current donations we will put the call for help out again.

We is still receiving call from people wanting to help and we know that many local Pony and Riding Clubs are looking at ways in which they can raise funds.  PHHWV has a program for anyone that may wish to contribute to fundraising.  The program is called Extra Little Bit of HOPE (ELBOH) and can be viewed at http://www.phhwv.org.au/hope.html. Even if you don’t know what activity you might like to run; this program has many ideas on events and activities that can guide you through successful fundraising.

To keep you as informed as possible we will be updating our website on a weekly basis, or as required.
You can make a donation to PHHWV online via Paypal, or via credit card by calling 1300 881 606.
All donated funds will be greatly needed to assist with veterinary costs for the treatment of horses.
All donations are tax deductible.
If you feel there is an area that is being overlooked and requires help please contact us and let us know 1300 881 606 or ininfo@phhwv.org.au
