Aster

Aster

Introducing Aster a 12-year-old, 15 hh Chestnut Arabian X gelding.

Little is known of his history. He has had little handling for the past 6 years, was initially underweight, infested with lice and wary of people - especially being approached past his head or from above.
His first hoof trims, teeth float, vet check and vaccinations have all been completed.
Furthermore, he has gained weight well. Since settling in has become accustomed to other animals, nearby traffic, the carer and some other people.

Aster is gentle but nervous, and he seems to have some knowledge / memory of basic groundwork. He can now be easily caught and groomed, and he leads and ties up well.
He has been good with the farrier on two occasions but still consolidating the handling of his back legs.
Aster is curious and calm with other horses. He has a kind nature and is a fast learner.
With improving connections it is possible for him to be calm with people in general rather than only with his main carer.
He is comfortable in his body and bright and alert.

If you are interested in giving Aster a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Bellebutton

Bellebutton

Introducing Bellebutton is an 8-year-old, 16.1hh bay Thoroughbred mare.
Bellebutton is a sensible, intelligent mare with a very sweet nature, she is curious and loves to connect and follow you around, she loves her cuddles. She would make an excellent companion and would also be suitable for inhand liberty work or obstacles. She is up-to-date with all her dental work, vaccinations and trimming.
Bellebutton was never registered to race as she sustained an injury to her nearside hind leg as a foal.  Although paddock sound, there is no guarantee she would remain sound with constant work under saddle, she would be ok with the occasional walk.

If you are interested in giving Bellebutton a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Bessie

Bessie

Bessie, a 16-year-old, 16hh Standardbred mare, is seeking a new home due to her previous owner's changing circumstances.

Bessie is a good doer and does not seem to require extensive feeding. Her teeth and hooves have been done. X-rays were used in the trimming process to correct overdue farrier work.
She had not been handled for a long time and can be a bit nervous at first, but with patience and understanding, she has shown how quickly she can pick up skills and confidence.
She is currently with Wendy's Horsemanship/Obstacles Ranch (photo credit) to improve her catching abilities.
The second session of catching her, Bessie was catching the trainer instead and becoming familiar with many obstacles.
Bessie ties up and stands quietly. Bessie is easy to worm and responds well to signals, her reactions are calm and considered – preferring to plant her feet than run away!
Bessie is happy either in a paddock on her own or with other horses (was not dominant mare in a trial herd).  She is confident to wait quietly until other horses return and will nicker in greeting.

If you are an experienced horse owner and have a horse who needs a companion or are looking to expand your equine family, consider giving Bessie a loving home.
Due to the long term neglect of her feet, she is not suitable to be ridden.

If you are interested in giving Bessie a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Captain & Star

Captain & Star

Introducing Captain Carrot but just Captain to us. He is 25 years old (young) Strawberry Roan 9hh a kind, friendly boy who enjoys interacting with people (and carrots!).
He is easy to catch, trim and handle and can be led by children. He is used to dogs and not phased by loud vehicles-tractors etc.
Furthermore, he actually loves a cuddle around the head and neck.
The only thing you need to take care with him is brushing him under his belly around his sheath, go slowly and carefully when grooming this area.

Star - 10 y old, 11hh Bay, Mare is bright and inquisitive but prefers not to be rushed, and she will come to you.
She was nervous when she first came in but with regular handling and learning to turn to look toward you, she has relaxed and built trust.
She is easy to catch, brush and trim and shows affection.
However, she can frighten easily with sudden movements around her, hence she is not to be around children and supervised with people unfamiliar with horses.
She is a wonderful paddock mate.

If you are interested in giving Captain & Star a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Dozer

Dozer

HOME PENDING

Introducing Dozer; a 15hh, 15 -year-old Clydesdale x gelding
who came into Project Hope Horse Welfare care on 30.8.23.
He was a solo horse for 3 years then after an accident his owner was no longer able to care for him. His teeth and hooves were well overdue, and he was overweight. An insulin assay was normal. He had vet, dental and farrier, worming and vaccinations completed.
Dozer has seedy-toe and thrush in all hooves, which is improving. There is evidence on the right fore of possible past laminitis. He became lame late Nov and X-rays revealed ringbone in left forefoot and likely has it in the right fore as well.
Therefore, he is now a companion horse and requires medications to keep him comfortable.
Dozer displays a quiet, well-mannered and gentle disposition.
He is easy to catch, lead, tie up, groom and handle his legs.

If you are interested in giving Dozer a long term care home, contact us via email with your inquiry.

Friday & April

Friday & April

Introducing Friday a 10 -year-old , 9hh , Liver Chestnut Mini mare and April a 10-year-old, 8hh Shetland Pony mare.
April is easy to do anything with and enjoys being around people. Under adult supervision, she had been with children that have handled and patted her. She requires good pony proof fencing as she will lean on fences to get any feed outside her paddock when on restricted diet.
Friday can be a little timid initially until she knows you and benefits from positive reinforcement. Once a connection is established through building confidence she is an absolute gem. She is becoming more people focuses each day.
Both lead, tie, pick up their legs for hoof care and float well. There has never been any observed signs of anything negative. April is perhaps the lead mare and will do a tail swish and ears back at Friday - but that is it.
The two will benefit from staying together as they have been friends for many years. We see them as chill out buddies or possible for therapy ponies.

Jazz

Jazz

Introducing Jazz is a 25-year-old Flea-bitten grey Arab mare approx. 14.2hh.

Her past few years have not been her best, but fortunately she has now been given a good restart with her rehabilitation. At some stage of her life, she has had some good handling. We believed she has had a few foals. At surrender, she was a body score 1.5.
Jazz has finished her evaluation and quarantine period.  We have had her teeth done as they had been neglected for quite some time – she has a missing 306 and had several sharp enamel points removed.
She will require 6- 9 monthly checks. Jazz is microchipped, hooves trimmed and worming regime is in place.
Catching and leading is now pretty much a comfortable action for her, rugs on and off still a little wary, improving with farrier, drenching her was another good reason to train head down and park as was the washing episode – but all in all with clear positive requests she learns really quickly.

As the vet commented in her report – “ The horse was bright and alert and was a pleasure to do anything with.”
Jazz has been in with others and demonstrates  normal horse behaviour in a mob environment.

If you are interested in giving Jazz a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Paris

Paris

Introducing Paris is a 15hh, 17-year-old, brown Standardbred mare.

Paris is not a ridden horse and seeks to be part of a mob that will always have horse/s with her to keep her company. Paris has a fantastic and gentle disposition and loves being around people.
She enjoys being groomed and is well-behaved for the farrier.
Furthermore, she is good to catch, tie up and worm. Paris is not fazed by cars, tractors and dogs.
All what Paris asks for is to be part of a family that will have her in with her paddock mates and be happy.

If you are interested in giving Paris a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Scarlett - Updated

Scarlett - Updated

Scarlett is a 15.1hh chestnut Thoroughbred/Quarter horse x mare estimated to be 15 years old, Nice moving mare.

When she arrived, Scarlett’s background was unknown. Early observations noted assertiveness and anxiety.
But underlying there was an intelligence and willingness to learn.  Scarlett spent time at Wendy's Horsmanship & Obstacle ranch showing us what she knew about obstacles from the ground.
She then spent time witlh Brad West at Wild West Horsmanship training being assessed as a riding horse.
Scarlett spent 4 weeks with Brad where she regained her confidence under saddle and although initially a little tense, reacted well when ridden in the bush, on the road side and in the paddock with other horses.
Her short-term home is with five other mares and she is respectful of the hierarchy.
Scarlett requires an experienced rider as she looks to them for her confidence, she needs someone who is happy to spend the one on one time with her on the ground, in the paddock to play with connection.
I believe she has been a working horse and needs a job to do

If you are interested in giving Scarlett a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.

Scout

Scout

Introducing Scout is a 12-year-old, 13hh chestnut mixed pony gelding.

Scout's short term carer has been making some positive advancements in his ability to be handled with his legs being touched and a brief introduction to some lunging.
Scout is now becoming more accepting of being brushed. He adores children and actually nudges other horses away to get the attention.
He leads super well and learns well with consistent kind and calm training.
Not only that, but he is ready to re home and would make a great companion pony to be adored and loved.

If you are interested in giving Scout a long term care home, get in touch via email with your inquiry.
